Unless you're at least slightly interested in paintball, you won't wanna read this.
Well Huntington Beach was this weekend, probly one of the most hyped tournaments of the year. I am a big fan of the NPPL, mostly because it's 7man instead of Xball, and they are least trying to stop the cheaters, rather than just changing the rules to allow everyone to cheat like in Xball.
Dynasty has been dominating the NPPL the last few years, and I don't like that. It's not that I don't like Dynasty, I'd just rather have real competition rather than the boys in blue stomping everyone at every tournament.
The NPPL did a smart thing by restricting pro to 18 teams this year. Here's the competition:
San Diego Dynasty
San Francisco Avalanche
DC Arsenal
Miami Rage
N.E. Hurricanes
Oakland Empire
Toulouse Tontons
Manchester Shockwave
London Tigers
Sacramento XSV
Los Angeles Infamous
Portland Naughty Dogs
Stockholm Joy Division
Huntington Beach Redz Sedition
London Nexus
Pittsburgh Smoke
OC Bushwackers
Chicago Evil
Here are a few pictures for all those visual learners out there.

That's Avalanche at the starting props.

Andy Kopcok of team Infamous, pointing out some fool he just blasted.

Joy Division in their new badass jersies.
Take a Look at them here.
Ryan Greenspan of team Dynasty.
For the prelims, I was shocked that Infamous went 3-5 and didn't make the cut for quarter finals. They were behind Nexus and The Tigers for fuck's sake!
Here's the teams that made Quarter finals and how they ranked coming in:
1. Dynasty (No surprise here)
2. Avalanche
3. Naughty Dogs
4. XSV
5. Joy Division
6. Arsenal
7. Nexus
8. Tigers
I was pretty happy that DC Arsenal made it into the quarter finals, they are like WDP's answer to Dynasty being a bunch of douchebags. Joy Division was no surprise to me, playing 6 days a week for free will do wonders for your game. I just really wish Infamous had made it into the quarters, it would have made the entire division more interesting.
Moving onto the semi finals was:
1. Dynasty
2. Naughty Dogs
3. Avalanche
4. XSV
Seriously, where the fuck did Naughty Dogs come from? They were just flat out awful most of last year, and I'm pretty sure they played terrible at PSP Pomona three weeks ago.
XSV just barely scratched their way into Semi's. I am glad they did, I am a huge fan of their old-school players Rich Telford and Matty Marshall. Those guys have been playing since the days of pump guns. They have been dragging ass on the Ironmen for way too long and its about damn time they formed their own team to ruin some people on the field once again.
Semi finals are structured like this. Dynasty plays Avalance for best of three, XSV plays Naughty Dogs for best of three, the winners move on to play each other in finals while the losers battle for 3rd and 4th.
XSV vs Naughty Dogs was an easy pick for me, I figured XSV would take it, but most might not agree based on how the Dogs played today. I lucked out, and XSV took it in two games. (95- 15, 96-12)
Dynasty vs. Avalanche was a tougher call. I was praying for Avalanche to take it, but it wasn't gonna come easy. In the offseason, Dynasty lured the two best players off of Avalanche. I still had faith, but Dynasty came out on top in three games. (96-12, 12-97, 96-12).
So that sets up XSV vs Dynasty for the $25,000 cash prize for pro and Naughty Dogs vs Avalanche for third.
(I wrote this part before the finals games had been played. I am thinking there is a good chance XSV will take it, because they have an excellent record against Dynasty. Sure Dynasty is a powerhouse of young skilled talent, but XSV is a team of veterans who have the ability and the patience to take down just about anyone on any field. Should be pretty interesting. I predict XSV taking 1st, Dynasty 2nd, Avalanche 3rd, Naughty Dogs 4th.)
Well turns out Dynasty took it in three games, leaving XSV in second. Avalanche dominated the Naughty Dogs for third.
I am dissapointed Dynasty won, I don't hate them all that much, I just wish other teams had a chance against them. As long as Dynasty is the only team making a real yearly salary just for playing, they're gonna be pretty unstoppable. (Russian Legion doesn't count, they get paid a salary and a free place to live, but they only play Xball.)
I'm working on a way to have NPPL Super7 brackets similiar to the ones people make for NCAA basketball. It would really only work for my friends who play paintball obviously, as they're the only ones who would know what the hell is going on. I think $10 a person with the overall pot going to the winner would be pretty interesting.
I'll definetly be looking forward to NPPL Tampa Bay, since there is a good chance I'll be playing with Infidel at that event.
If you made it through all that, I'm impressed. Til next time...Stay Angry.
